Aurobindo Pharma Ltd., a vertically integrated pharmaceutical company that delivers innovative solutions for cost-effective drug development and substantial manufacturing, chose Evans to provide design-build, commissioning, and partial renovation/expansion services for a two-phase project. The first being a 42,000 sf facility and the second a 140,000 sf existing facility located in Research Triangle Park in Durham, NC.  The construction scope included selective demolition and abatement for both phases.

Phase one houses 12,000 sf of labs including 3 Analytical and 2 R&D laboratories featuring lab gases, purified water, lab casework, neutralization system, fume hoods, and support areas (stability, solvent storage, glass wash, etc.). The renovation includes 5,000 sf of cGMP pilot manufacturing, filling and packaging of inhaled and dermatological products in ISO-8/Class 100k utilizing a modular cleanroom systems. Building environmental controls included the installation of a distributed digital control building automation system (BAS) to control temperature, humidity throughout the facility. The project also includes fit-out of 25,000 sf for offices and administrative areas.

Phase two consisted of 19,000 sf of cGMP manufacturing in Grade C, D, E and CNC areas. The scope of work included coordination of the design with owner supplied process manufacturing equipment for dermatological products, inhaled products with filling operations, and transdermal delivery systems with conversion & packaging. Evans also oversaw supply, installation and startup of process utility equipment including cGMP compressed air, waste neutralization, and USP purified water generation, storage & distribution. The project included supply, installation, startup, and functional testing of building equipment including chilled water and air handling units. Building environmental controls scope included the expansion of an existing distributed digital control building automation system (BAS) to control temperature and humidity throughout the building. BAS monitors O2/LEL sensors and differential pressure throughout the production areas. The project includes 3,500 sf production labs, 8,000 sf of packaging/raw material storage, as well as 32,000 sf of warehouse/distribution area.
