BMW Southern Regional Training Center

Project Details

In 1994, BMW Automotive opened their first U.S. production facility in Spartanburg, SC. Several years later, BMW contracted with Evans to construct a two-phase expansion to that existing plant making the 6-million-square-foot Performance Center, in Spartanburg, BMW’s most flexible and largest plant by volume worldwide.

In 2016, Evans was contracted again, but this time to build a 750,000 sf Flex Hub for BMW in Greer, SC.  A year later, Evans was the contractor for a 700,000 sf, LEED certified, Inland Port. This facility, also located in Greer, is used as a third-party logistics space to support the import and export operations of the BMW X-Series.

Shortly after completing the Inland Port facility, the auto giant contracted Evans a fourth time to deliver a 32,640 sf, $7.3 million Southern Regional Training Facility to be located in Greer. Building is constructed out of a custom designed pre-engineered structural system with a smooth insulated metal panel exterior. Front of the building includes a full height curtain wall glass system with vertical and horizontal sunshade accents. Most of the interior shop and support spaces are open to the roof structure giving a large open feel. Flooring is clinker tile throughout the shop spaces, ceramic/porcelain tile in the lobby and bathrooms, and carpet tile in training classrooms and administrative areas. Fire alarm and sprinkler system designed and installed inside paint booths, prep booths, and mixing booth as well as all other general areas. Full access control and CCTV systems installed for maximum security.  The new vocational training center, opened May, 2019 and is home to technicians and service personnel within BMW’s southern region.

The delivery of this fourth project helps cement the ongoing relationship between BMW and Evans and the commitment both have towards building a strong economy in South Carolina’s upstate.
