Project Details
Bolta Werke is a leading manufacturer specializing in the injection molding and electroplating of interior and exterior components for the premium automotive industry. Bolta contracted with Evans for the turn-key construction of their new manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Supported on a shallow foundation system, the 185,000 sf building is composed of a conventional steel frame with concrete tilt-up wall panels. Evans designed the building’s steel structure, along with all electrical/mechanical systems and the ESFR sprinkler system to withstand the highly corrosive environment created by the chemical processes involved in the plating line. Inside, there are production, assembly, and distribution areas along with 13,500 sf of administrative/office space. Also on-site is a state-of-the-art batch processing wastewater treatment area capable of treating 50,000 gallons of water per day. The facility features a fully automated rack plating line, advanced testing equipment and in-process validation as well as the capacity to hold 20 injection molding machines ranging in size from 50-1,500 tons. Scope of work included complete design-build services, shell building construction, tenant build-out including the installation of one 25 metric ton bridge crane over the injection molding area and a comprehensive site work package.
