Evans General Contractors was contracted by the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) to provide a 283K sf T-configured transload warehouse. The facility is built with conventional steel and tilt-up concrete panels with a single story and 2-story office component incorporated into the warehouse. Construction also includes a stacked container yard (for 1M units), electric rubber tired gantry (eRTG) crane runways and electrical systems, trailer parking yard, truck processing gates including a security building, car parking, roadways, and all necessary associated civil, electrical, and mechanical works.
The transload facility maximizes trailer positions with over 300 dock doors, which accommodates the user’s high daily volume of product that moves throughout the facility. The security building will be constructed at the five lane inbound gate. Despite building challenges with respect to the shape and amount of doors, the site is what sets this project apart. It boasts over 55 acres of concrete pavement, including three eRTG runways that are over 1,000 feet long, and a robust underground electrical system that supports the crane stacks.
