Voices Within Evans: Tanner Case
Empowering the Next Generation Through Mentorship and Collaboration
As our “Voices with Evans” series continues, each conversation brings a new perspective that highlights the evolving nature of our industry.
Starting from the ground up in this field creates learning experiences like no other, ones that encourage collaboration, build resilience, and foster meaningful mentorship.
Tanner Case, Vice President and Division Manager of the Atlanta office, is a strong supporter of Evans’ Internship Program and a champion for young professionals entering the industry. As a graduate of Auburn University in Architectural and Building Sciences/Technology, Tanner values mentorship and collaboration, and is helping to position Atlanta as a vibrant center for growth and innovation.

Reflecting on your journey, what do you see as the most important factors shaping the careers of young professionals in the construction industry?

For young people in construction, being willing to learn, building strong relationships, and staying flexible are essential. In this field, there’s always something new to learn, whether it’s technology, processes, or insights from seasoned colleagues. At its core, this industry is built on people, so the connections you make with coworkers, clients, and trade partners can open a lot of doors. In a field that’s constantly evolving, being adaptable, embracing new roles or challenges, those who stay curious, connected and open-minded are the ones who thrive.
How does participation in an internship impact an individual’s entry into the industry, and what distinctions exist between those who began their careers with internship experience and those who did not?

Participating in an internship can definitely shape how smoothly and confidently someone enters the industry. Evans internship program, and internships in general, provide hands-on experience, real-world context, and early exposure to professional expectations that often translate into stronger skill sets and clearer career direction.
Those who begin their careers with internship experience typically enter the industry more prepared, confident, and with the potential to grasp concepts quicker. However, we’ve been extremely successful bringing on individuals who have never interned in the construction industry, and developed them into future leaders through strong training, mentorship, and a supportive team culture. This has shown us that while internships can provide a head start, they are not the determining factor in someone’s long-term potential or success.
Ultimately, both paths can lead to successful careers, the key is a willingness to learn, grow, and embrace new challenges, no matter where you start or what your background is.
The key is a willingness to learn, grow, and embrace new challenges, no matter where you start or what your background is.
In your opinion, how have mentorship and collaboration shaped your experience and the industry?

For me, mentorship and collaboration have been game changers. Having mentors to lean on early in my career gave me invaluable perspective and helped me grow in ways I couldn’t have on my own. Collaboration is just as important; construction is too complex for one person to do alone. To me, success comes from being able to work well with different teams and partners. I think that’s key across the industry, the more we share knowledge and work together, the better the outcomes are for everyone involved.
As the Atlanta Division leader, what do you think makes the region stand out as a hub for innovation and growth for the next generation of industry leaders?

Atlanta is a city that embraces growth and innovation. Evans takes pride in being a part of a community that values collaboration and forward thinking, these principles fit well with our business model. We get to partner with great clients, designers, and subcontractors who are just as focused on quality, technology, and sustainability as we are. The Atlanta market is fast paced and really pushes us and the next generation in construction to keep raising the bar.
